The Geospatial Professional Network (formerly known as URISA) is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors – unpaid volunteers who are elected by the membership to serve three-year terms. Elections take place each summer and board terms begin at the close of the GIS-Pro annual conference.

The Chapter Development and Relations Council promotes the health and growth of URISA chapters and facilitates communication, and support by and between URISA and its chapters. Each chapter appoints a representative.

Welcome to the Climate and Community Resilience Committee! We have recently update our committee name to more fully highlight the diverse and interconnected aspects of climate, climate equity and community resilience, to encompass climate mitigation and adaptation, and to more broadly represent the work and the interest of members. The Committee advances climate and community resilience through its work and that of several focused working groups

This space is focused on communications among GPN Committee Chairs and Board Liaisons.

The Core Documents Committee, under the direction of the Board of Directors, is charged with identifying and reviewing amendments to the URISA Core Documents:
• The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) Bylaws;
• URISA Policy Manual;
• URISA Chapter Leaders Manual; and
• Other documents that are identified to be critical to the governance and operations of the URISA organization by the Board of Directors.

This committee reviews and oversees the Exemplary Systems in Geospatial Awards program for GPN.

The Finance Committee provides advice to the Board related to the financial health and well-being of GPN and shall work with GPN's Treasurer on matters of budget and finance, as requested by the Treasurer. In particular, the Finance Committee will assist the Treasurer in the review of the annual URISA budget and with the development of financial policies and investment strategies.
The Chair of the Finance Committee is the GPN Treasurer.

Plans and directs the work of GISCorps. The GISCorps coordinates short term, volunteer based GIS services to underprivileged communities and for humanitarian relief. The GISCorps Core Committee solicits and assigns volunteers to provide GIS services. The Committee is charged with producing the Association’s annual educational conference, GIS-Pro.

This committee is charged with updating and delivering the URISA GIS Leadership Academy.

This Committee is charged with recommending a slate of candidates to serve on the URISA Board of Directors in accordance with the Association’s Bylaws and to propose candidates to serve in the post of Whistleblower Policy Compliance Officer. This Committee also identifies people for future leadership roles.

This committee is charged with developing and implementing programs to: market the organization; advertise its activities, events, programs and initiatives; and attract and retain URISA members.

The purpose of the Membership Committee is to advance membership growth, retention and benefits by promoting GPN membership through marketing and communications efforts and best practices to increase participation in GPN through networking, volunteerism and recognition. The committee is responsible for evaluating current and proposed member benefits and potential new categories of membership to be reviewed and approved by the GPN Board of Directors.

The Past Presidents' Council provides advice to URISA’s Board upon request, and may, at Board request or with Board approval, take up specific matters for the good of the Association. In addition, each year the Council reviews and makes recommendations to the Board on nominations for the GIS Hall of Fame.

This committee monitors legislation that may impact the geospatial profession and recommends formal policy positions to the Board.

In 2019, URISA formed the Pro-Equity Anti-Racism Committee to guide URISA through this journey and provide Pro-Equity Anti-Racism organizational change management. The Pro-Equity Anti-Racism Committee strives to envision, collaborate, and create a framework for an equity-driven organization, centering anti-racism in our strategic planning and operations.

Oversees the development and maintenance of GPN-approved professional educational materials. It also establishes guidelines for the development, review, and publication of GPN approved professional educational materials. Ensures that these materials are developed and presented in accordance with GPN policies, membership interests, and Board strategic goals. The committee also coordinates the portfolio of educational materials, identifying gaps, resolving overlaps, and assessing balance.

Established to provide the means for young professionals to receive encouragement and to have a stronger role in the guidance of URISA. The Cabinet’s mission is to collaborate with the URISA Board of Directors in creating and promoting programs and policies of benefit to young professionals. Members of the Vanguard Cabinet are selected through an application process.
