GPN's professional education committee is mission-driven and productive!

The Geospatial Professional Network is well-known in the GIS Community for being comprehensive, vendor-neutral, and providing valuable educational opportunities to support geospatial professionals at all stages of their careers. Aside from conference presentations at GIS-Pro and academies, GPN provides an average of 38 new fact sheets, newsletters, webinars, workshops, specialty conferences, and special publications each year that are found on the GPN calendar, throughout the GPN website, and through the GPN Learning Annex.  

 

Share your experience and expertise

These programs offer you the opportunity to volunteer and share your experience and expertise with others. GPN’s Professional Education Committee (PEC) coordinates, encourages, and supports the development of quality professional educational content and materials by any interested members, groups, and committees in their areas of interest and expertise through a desired format. Get started by sharing your ideas for involvement through the Call for Content Proposals form. All it takes is the form; no need to join a committee or attend a meeting to contribute to GPN’s education goals.

Work of the Committee

The Committee meets monthly to share the progress of products and discuss initiatives, such as webinar series themes and content for the GPN Learning Annex. Volunteers on the committee lead initiatives and work together to coordinate the portfolio of educational materials by establishing and following development and review guidelines, identifying and reducing gaps in content, and assessing the balance of content so that materials align with GPN policies, strategic goals, and member interests. GPN members with an interest in supporting and guiding the development of content are welcome to join the committee.

Ongoing Professional Education Volunteer Opportunities

GPN is constantly producing new educational products and is always seeking volunteers interested in furthering GPN’s goal to support the GIS profession. Most of PEC’s work involves content development, review and presentation. Time commitments can range from an hour to many days depending on your interests and availability. Here are some ways to get started!

1. Visit the Call for Content Proposals page to share your ideas for developing workshops, webinars, fact sheets, and more based on your interests, experiences, and passions.
   
2. Tune in to GPN Connect, the GIS Professional, and other communications from GPN to learn about opportunities to review materials, moderate sessions, and other short-term and low-overhead ways to be involved.
   
3. Did you attend a GPN workshop that you really enjoyed and would like to help others enjoy? Reach out to the workshop instructor and ask about being a co-instructor.
   
4. Join the Professional Education Committee to enable and support content from all GPN members, groups, and committees.
