Welcome to your online member community. Settle in and make yourself comfortable. Here, you can explore our group pages. Get to know one another. Contribute to the conversation. Share your expertise. Learn from others… and feel free to stay awhile.

This is the area within the member portal where you can join chapters, special interest groups, and committees.

Select the chapter in your home geographic area to connect locally with fellow members. We have created two special interest groups, to start. One is an area for Young Professionals to connect and the other is an area to support our members who are planning to pursue their GISP certification. Maybe we can make it a study group/place to share exam taking tips.

Further, committees and task forces are listed. You can ask to join those committees that are open to members (i.e. not an appointed or elected group).

As we move along, each group will have its own landing page where you can see activities and volunteer opportunities. Looking forward to making this an amazing communication tool and an easy way to contribute!

  • Chapter »

  • Organization that supports a group of local URISA members, usually geographically represented. Select the chapter in the geographic area in which you if there is one. (Note that there may not currently be a chapter in your local area.) If you live in Alaska, Florida or Oklahoma, there is a $25 dues fee and you must select the chapter that applies to you. If there is not chapter currently in your area, select No Chapter in my Area.
  • Committee »

  • A group of persons authorized by the Board to perform some service or function. GPN Committees and Task Forces are composed of volunteer members who devote time and expertise to contribute to the group's goals and activities which could be related to a specific conference like GIS-Pro or an overarching association function like Marketing or Professional Education. There is typically a Chair and Vice Chair and individuals are encouraged to 'elevate' their volunteer contributions to gain more experience and contribute. Most typically, individuals progress from participating as a committee member; then on to a leadership role; and even to the Board of Directors. It is an invaluable way to develop leadership and management skills outside of your job; build your professional network; and earn valuable GISP Contributions points.
  • Community »

  • A GPN Community is an informal group that develops around a shared passion or interest. These groups communicate with one another, set up ways to advance their understanding of the topic they are organized around, and have a loose leadership team that can be modified and changed over time. Communities are not intended to be permanent, although there is no strict length of time they should or can be in existence.
  • Task Force »

  • Group of members working on a special project or task.
