Welcome to the URISA Book Club!

Welcome:

This idea stemed from several discussions with URISA Members, wanting a book club specifically for URISA. This is our test, to see if it could be sucessful. Please provide us feedback as we grow and develop this group.

  1. Start book at the beginning of the month.
  2. As members read: (Using Group Forums)
    1. Document key ideas/concepts
    2. Ask questions solicit feedback
    3. *forum posts with the most "likes" or comments will be dismissed at the book summary meeting.
  3. Virtual-live discussions of the book
    1. Via Zoom on the last Friday of the month at 10am pacific time.
      1.  Voting for next book will take place in the last 5 minutes of the meeting. .

Technology/Collaboration:
Use "URISA Connect" to manage 'members', documents/resources, and discussions.

Great idea! At the URISA GIS Leadership Academy, the participants are often talking about career-related books they've read.

Book Ideas from the GLA in Charlotte
We asked the GLA class in Charlotte to add book recommendations. We got quite a list :-) I'll turn this into a readable list soon.

Is this where we put our book ideas? I don't get this connect layout, yet. How to Lie with Maps and How to Lie with Statistics are my input for the list.

At the top menu. Select Pages: There is a page dedicated to "Book Suggestions". It's open to all Group Members to edit and add.

* HI, I updated the Event details for the Virtual discussion for Aug. to allow more registration (sorry! I'm still learning this system). There will be another update when we get a Zoom link setup. Thanks for understanding and your patience as we experiment!
